EMBERS VOLUNTEERS

Embers' work can only happen with the support and advocacy of our community. Our volunteer programs of Embers Ambassadors, Embers Artist Advocates, and Embers Intercessors are opportunities for you to join in this work toward a world where all are free to flourish.

Welcome Embers Volunteers!

We love that you are interested in partnering with us on our mission to create a world where all are free to flourish. Our volunteers support this work in many different ways, including prayer, story-telling, community advocacy, and with many other creative endeavors! We hope you will consider offering your time and talents to this mission of justice and mercy.

Embers Ambassadors

Intergenerational work is unique to Embers’ mission. We recognize that to end the negative cycles of generational abuse, we must not only rescue and provide for babies born into brothels but we must also keep them connected to their mothers. This requires personalized care for both a mother and child as a family unit, and Embers is with our clients throughout the whole process, empowering victims of trauma to truly become parents for the first time.

We believe that it is fellow caregivers – moms, dads, aunts, uncles, grandparents, and others – who can understand and empathize most with the women Embers serves and their unique calling and needs as mothers, because caregivers know what it is to be advocates, protectors, and providers. The Embers Ambassadors program seeks to activate caregivers who want to support this work through their advocacy and creative means.

Embers Artist Advocates

Our work is rooted in the understanding that justice is directly linked to beauty. Restoring victims of injustice requires more than merely legal restitution. It requires a recognition that there is an inherent beauty in a human being that was broken, and that creativity, love, and artistry are needed to remind us of our humanity. As Embers’ Artist Advocate Counsel Makoto Fujimura often says, transcendent beauty has resonance in the most broken places of this world that leads to hope and healing.

The Artist Advocate program is designed to activate creatives to advocate for victims of injustice through their artistic platforms and gifts. We welcome experienced, practicing artists of any medium (including filmmakers, painters, poets, dancers, musicians, craftspeople, and more) to apply to be an Embers Artist Advocate.

Embers Intercessors

As a Christian organization, Embers believes that the body of Christ is called to “seek justice, love mercy, and walk humbly with God” (Micah 6:8) with the vision and Holy Spirit anointing of Isaiah 61 in this broken world where “our fight is not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, and against spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places” (Ephesians 6:12).

We recognize the importance and urgency of relying on God for our work as we are called to bring the Light of Christ into the darkest places. We believe that in this work, God has called Embers’ community to “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18).

What People Say About Us

To be an Artist Advocate for Embers International is to do the work of Culture Care alongside like-minded artists and creative catalysts, to bring an ember of hope and beauty to some of the darkest realms of the world’s cities. It also means to be part of a larger movement of care to mend and to make new in a broken, fractured world. I find my experience of journeying to communities we work with an inspiration and a seed of joy for my life and my art.

Mako Fujimura - Embers Artist Advocate Counsel

Embers International changed my whole perspective on how the arts can participate in the work of social justice. I am privileged to be an Artist Advocate and part of this community.
