Police in Assam, India rescues 42 trafficked children
Lured in with the false promise of an opportunity for education, 42 children – ages 8 - 18 – in Assam, India, were trafficked across country borders into forced labor. Last Friday, the children were rescued at the Bengal-Sikkim border and 2 of the traffickers were arrested. As World Day Against Trafficking in Persons on July 30 approaches, Embers calls your attention to the urgent need to fight human trafficking.
5 Days Left to Double Your Oxygen Relief Gifts to Assam
The recent news of trafficking victims found in Assam brings into focus the strategic importance of our relief efforts in Assam, where Embers has partnered with Emmanuel Hospital Association (EHA) to build a medical-grade oxygen plant to serve those who are vulnerable to exploitation. Embers is pleased to report that together, we have raised $71,710 to build an oxygen plant at Burrows Hospital! Many thanks to those who have generously given to this ambitious relief project. We still have $8,290 left to fully fund one oxygen plant. With our ongoing matching campaign made possible by two generous donors in the U.S., we only need to raise $4,145 more by this Saturday. Please make your donation today!
Assam is an isolated region of India plagued by pervasive human trafficking across borders, where victims are often smuggled to and from from neighboring countries such as Bangladesh and Myanmar into forced labor and sex trade. EHA’s Burrows Memorial Christian Hospital serves vulnerable populations including trafficking victims, daily-wage workers, and the unemployed individuals who need medical attention.
5 days remain in the matching campaign to maximize your gift. Will you help us bring relief to those in Assam?
